Rugged — Trunk & Cargo

The full-size platform. Trunk floor, cargo bay, SUV rear.

The platform with room to work with. A square cabinet that stands on the trunk floor or against the rear seat, in one, two or four drivers. Because it is the least constrained space in the vehicle, this is the platform that can be tuned for output rather than for clearance — it is the only one that takes a port comfortably.

What it will not do

Cut for 8, 10 and 12 inch drivers. Fifteens and eighteens do not fit this face: two 15" frames need more baffle width than the platform gives, and no cabinet depth fixes that. Final width, height and depth come from your driver and your space, not from a fixed model number.

Rugged — Behind the Seat

Truck cab. The wall behind you, and not an inch more.

Built for the gap between the rear seat and the back wall of a truck cab — wide, tall enough, and almost no depth. The cabinet is wedged, deeper at the bottom where the floor allows it, because that slope is where the volume comes from. Every inch here is fought for, which is why the driver's mounting depth decides more than its size does.

What it will not do

Eights only, in twos or fours. This is not a preference — a 10" frame needs mounting depth that a cab wall does not have. Shallow-mount drivers open up options here that standard baskets do not.

Rugged — Under Rear Seat

Bass that costs you no cargo space at all.

Lives in the void under a crew cab's rear seat. The flattest platform of the three and the one with the least air to work with, so it is sealed by design and voiced for tight, controlled output rather than for depth. What it gives up in volume it returns in a bed and a back seat you never had to sacrifice.

What it will not do

Eights and tens, in twos or fours. Sealed only: there is no depth under a seat to fold a port into. Seat height varies more between trucks than any other measurement on this site, so this is the platform where measuring your own vehicle matters most.
